Blogger Thoughts:

Adam Curry, sounding like Adam Smith (glorifying the “Invisible Hand”) says the “Be the Media” movement is misguided, and isn’t a good example for our kids. (I have to admit that I find the phrase “citizen journalist”, which some bloggers, etc. use, a little irritating.) Adam says he’s “not that unhappy” with Blair and Bush, partially because he knows Bush will be gone in 2 years.

In talking about Clear Channel (and media consolidation in general) he proclaims that this is a self regulating system, and that investment bankers will provide the needed “creative destruction” (my quoted phrase from Joseph Schumpeter, not Curry’s). From Curry’s viewpoint, the resulting upheaval will produce more candidates in the labor pool that can apply to Podshow enterprises.

As an aside, let me say that I’m not against the teachings of Adam Smith or Schumpter. The issue is: what Adam Curry seems to celebrate as free market capitalism is anything but. There has been massive swindling and influence peddling. Is Adam not familiar with the Spitzer prosecutions of Marsh? This is only a tiny example of the malfeasance that has been a part of the American landscape. I suppose that Curry’s success with his previous business venture and his current support from investment bankers makes him a captive of the “Man”. Right now in the US and the UK, the “Man” is what brought us the Neocons and 600,000+ deaths in Iraq.

Curry’s simplistic opinions are so wrong and misleading. I wonder if he might be qualified to take over for Rush Limbaugh.

I should realize that I’m made a huge mistake in thinking that Curry’s venting against controlled media (MTV for example) meant he really understood the nature of the mischief that the MSM represents.

Based on Curry’s views on critical political matters, his business efforts should be opposed in every legal way, since it is clear that his “independent” vision is likely to be more of the same.
