Dear Families of September 11 members,

This week the Senate is scheduled to take up floor discussion of a bill intended to implement the outstanding 9/11 Commission recommendations. Included in the bill are provisions intended to ensure screening of 100% of cargo on commercial aircraft, improve the nation’s ability to prevent nuclear terrorism and increase private sector preparedness.

However, it has come to our attention that some Senators are considering amending the bill with legislation that is not related to the 9/11 Commission recommendations, including some controversial language regarding the war in Iraq . Families of September 11 does not take a position in favor or against these provisions, but does believe they should not be attached to a bill that is focused on the 9/11 Commission recommendations. Such provisions could cause some Senators to stop the entire bill.

We are asking our nation’s leaders not to allow such language to be attached to the bill being debated this week. If you would like to express your opinion, we encourage you to do so. Every voice counts.

  • To reach Senate Majority Leader Reid’s office,
    call
  • To reach Senate Minority Leader McConnell’s office,
    call
  • To find out which senators represent you, visit www.senate.gov.

We need your help to ensure that this Senate bill is a strong bill, not overshadowed by amendments that are not part of the 9/11 Commission recommendations. More than five years after 9/11, and in the week in which we commemorate 14 years since the first WTC bombings, we cannot afford to wait any longer to implement the important outstanding recommendations.
