Update 8/14
Blog Posts and Commentators (Michael Rivera, Alex Jones) continue to fail to highlight the important detail shown above.
Update 8/13 11:07
Byron York was on Laura Ingraham’s radio show this a.m.
He pointed out that many Ron Paul supporters in attendance in Ames may not have been Iowa residents and thereby did not qualify to vote.
I respect that this fact may explain the ratio of votes cast / total tickets sold that I referred to below.

Is it true that 26,000 tickets were sold for the Poll?
And…. 14,302 votes counted.
There’s definitely something fishy here.

AP article on Iowa Straw Poll (as presented at newpaper web site: LJWorld.com) omits mention of Ron Paul
Romney takes first in Iowa straw poll
Romney scored 4,516 votes, or 31.5 percent, to outpace former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who had 2,587 votes, or 18.1 percent. Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback was third with 2,192 votes, 15.3 percent.

Update 8/12/2007 2:51 PM
NY Times omits mention of mentions Ron Paul on page 2 of their web article:
If the Romney and Brownback campaigns had fleets of buses to ferry their supporters to Ames, a central Iowa city of about 50,000, loyalists of Representative Ron Paul of Texas appeared to come on their own. But come they did, with a crowd of a few hundred overflowing his white tent.
“I don’t make predictions, but I do say we are going to do very well!” Mr. Paul said, screaming to be heard over his audience. “How can anybody turn down the possibility to vote for freedom and hope?”
Many in the crowd were not from Iowa. License plates on the highways leading to Ames showed that Paul bumper stickers were plastered on cars from Washington State, Wisconsin and Missouri. “Many of you are not from Iowa, but you can persuade one or two or three or four people today,” Mr. Paul said. “If you’re an Iowan, please go vote!”
NT Times mentions Fred, doesn’t make fun name “Fred” (see below)
Romney Wins Iowa Straw Poll by a Sizable Margin
Another prospective candidate, Fred D. Thompson, did not appear here, though his name was on the ballot. He drew 203 votes.
Update 8/12/2007 2:30 PM
Flash: Washington Post updates their article to include Ron Paul:
Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, the most outspoken opponent of immigration policy, finished fourth with 14 percent. Rep. Ron Paul placed fifth with 9 percent. Former Wisconsin governor Tommy G. Thompson was sixth at 7 percent. He had said he would quit the presidential race if he failed to finish in the top two, and he is likely to be an early casualty.
MSNBC, using an article with AP’s logo, continues to omit Ron Paul’s name.
MSNBC had included, on Friday, Aug. 10, this article from the NYTimes:
Paul camp may catch Romney’s bus
Update 8/12/2007 2:26 PM
While reviewing online news reports of the Aug. 14, 1999 Iowa Straw Poll, I found this:
17 Minutes PBS “Online News Hour” Clip (Real Audio)
This clip link was found here:
POST-AMES ANALYSIS
Perhaps the most interesting part of this sound clip found here is George W. Bush promising to be a “law and order” Pres., after Buchanan suggests that his first action as Pres. would be to arrest Bill Clinton.
As mainstream news sources have said, the turnout for this year’s Straw poll is smaller than previous years.
I fact checked the idea that the hot weather may be a contributing factor. The record turnout in 1999 was indeed carried out with on a mild rather than hot day. I certainly don’t think the small turnout this year has been explained. However, it does seem that the temperature was much hotter than was the case in previous straw polls in Ames.
New Topic.(well still about “turnout”.. Was the 1999 Straw Poll Fixed?:

I notice the author speculates about the possibility that the 2000 [sic] (it was August of 1999) numbers were inflated. I find that to be an interesting thought, because I was there supporting Pat Buchanan. Let me tell you something, we had the Teamsters bus in support for the campaign. I worked in the food tent, and the line literally never receded for the Buchanan camp. However, Elizabeth Dole had virtually no supporters whatsoever. Magically, she came in like second or third. I remember thinking to myself back then that it was like we were competing against ghosts.

MSNBC too forgets to mention Dr. Paul:
Romney easily wins GOP straw poll in Iowa

The following shows exactly what the Washington Post included in its new article before the revision to include Paul.
